May's Meeting - The Legal Side of Business (and yummy sushi)

Legal advice with a side of sushi. Fun times! Special thanks to Heather Archer (attorney extraordinaire) and Maiko Sushi for hosting our May NEAWP meeting. And, of course, Dustin Meyer for the pictures.

A few key takeaways from our meeting:

1) Get it in writing. CYA!

2) Consult a lawyer for your contracts. Just because you write it doesn't make it legal.

3) Don't be afraid to copyright your intellectual property! This includes sketches, layouts, proposals and more.

Have a great week and we'll see you next month at the Vineyard at Florence.

Featured member :: Skip Neal

We heart wedding season. We love our clients. But sometimes we all need a little vacay!

Meet the man who is always on vacation -- NEAWP member, Skip Neal. He's always got a tan and usually has some exciting stories about Fiji or somewhere exotic. Plus he's got more awards for superior customer service than he knows what to do with -- check out his email signature.

From fabulous honeymoons to destination wedding details, this guy has the goods. He can hook you up with the latest and greatest locations from the Caribbean to Europe, but his own personal faves are Alaska & Hawaii.

What else does Skip do when he's not jet setting? He loves to golf, stare longingly at Corvettes and travel (he calls it "research") with his lovely wife, Amy.

Congratulations to the oh-so-fab Sarah Miller -- NEAWP's wedding consultant of the month.

More scoop and pictures from April's meeting to come. It was another good one... we twittered, learned why Facebook is actually a productive use of time and heard all about other effective PR/marketing tools to help build our wedding & event businesses.

Featured member :: Suzi Q - Q Weddings

One of the pieces of advice I (as a wedding planner) always give my clients is that they have to really like and feel completely comfortable with their photographer. And their planner, too. But that's another blog post.

Enter Suzi Q of Q Weddings. She's fun, she's funny and she's always laughing. She also loves to take pictures of food. And random iPhone pictures, so watch out.

Q Facts:

I've had a lot of odd jobs, including being a props person in the film industry, a Zamboni driver (whaaaat?) and I managed a 90-day book tour around the U.S. in a giant toaster (The Toastermobile).

I grew up in Idaho and yes, Napolean Dynamite is really what it's like. When I graduated from high school, I went as far from Idaho as possible. I lived in France for one year and speak French fluently. I even know the naughty words.

I love film. I shoot film at weddings and love the look of it (and so do my clients!).

I also love my iPhone for taking photos. I'm trying to convince someone to hire me to shoot their wedding entirely with the iPhone.

Thank you, Suzi! Amazing work.

You can reach Suzi, the ex-Zamboni driver, here. Or stalk her blog for more pretty (and yummy) things. And lots of handy wedding Q-tips. Ha ha.

Enjoy!
